Laura J. Nelson

Laura J. Nelson is a sophomore print journalism and French major at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. From May to August 2010, she will intern at the St. Petersburg Times in St. Petersburg, Fla.


From May to August, Nelson worked as a metro intern at the Los Angeles Daily News. Her work for LA's second-largest daily included Sunday features, business and law stories and coverage of Michael Jackson's death.


Nelson is currently a reporter for Neon Tommy, the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism's digital news Web site.


She is a journeyman in the Epsilon class of Delta Omicron Zeta, USC’s premier co-ed leadership fraternity, as well as a member of the Undergraduate Student Government Outreach Committee.


From June to November 2009, Nelson worked as the news assignments editor for the campus paper, the Daily Trojan. Previously, she covered the crime beat. Her work, cited by the Los Angeles Times and City News Service, included coverage of a USC student's death in a hit-and-run accident.


Her other passion is her blog, USC TranSCribed, where since August 2008 she has detailed her experiences as a Kansas girl in California.


Nelson is a Presidential Scholar and an Annenberg Scholar at USC, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and a recent inductee into the Golden Key International Honor Society.
